Stop the SAVE Act (H.R. 22/ S.128)

This is a voter suppression act disguised as voter ID legislation.  The bill is based on the erroneous information put forward by the Trump administration and many Republicans that is not supported by any data and has been refuted by many lawsuits and investigations about the magnitude of illegal voting in elections.

The SAVE Act would require a birth certificate or passport in person to register.  It is already illegal to register and vote if one is not a citizen.  The incidence of this occurring has been in the range of .005%.  It is nonexistent in terms of any election.  What it will do is make it very difficult for people to register to vote.  Who are the targets? Minorities, of course, but also women.

Here’s some statistics for consideration:

• More than 21 million Americans lack immediate access to documentary proof of citizenship

• More than 140 million Americans do not have a passport

• More than 69 million women have taken a spouse's name and do not have birth certificates that match their name

• Citizens of color are three times as likely compared to white voters have difficulties accessing certificates for citizenship 

Women voters will be negatively impacted to fix an essentially insignificant problem.  Why are women and minorities being targeted by this administration? What threat do we pose to elections? Oppose the SAVE America Act - PASSED HOUSE (UPDATED 2/11) ⭑ 5 Calls

No Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Funding (No Continuing Resolution for DHS)

The Senate voted down H.R. 7147 which is a stand alone bill for the funding of DHS, bringing a shutdown of DHS.   The Democratic demands are:

• No more masks for ICE and CBP 

• Require agents have body cams, ID numbers and names on their uniforms

• Ban arrests without judicial warrants. The administration warrants are unconstitutional

• Ban racial profiling 

• Ban agents from sensitive areas such as schools, churches, day care centers, medical facilities, and courts

• End surveillance of demonstrators 

• Properly train agents in deescalation and non combative strategies

• Remove agents from active service while being investigated for possible excessive violence

Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents are terrorizing our communities and citizens. They act and believe that they have total immunity for their actions and that they are above the law and decency.
